Michael Chandler vs Conor McGregor is official...for the next season of The Ultimate Fighter. This means Iron Mike and the Notorious One are going to be coaching against each other for one season of reality TV. Many fighters have actually had success from starting on The Ultimate Fighter, such as Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson. Usually, at the end of the season, the coaches end up fighting on a pay-per-view card. Last season it ended up a rematch for the Bantamweight Women's Title, Amanda Nunes vs Juliana Pena. The viewership was low, to say the least. From a business perspective, it makes a lot of sense because anything with Conor is going to get views, and adding Mike is adding entertainment. The two of them together in the same room on opposite sides is going to cause a lot of drama between them and laughter for the fans at home.
As for the hopeful fight after The Ultimate Fighter ends it should be amazing. Win or lose, nearly every Michael Chandler fight is a fight-of-the-year contender. We know how badly Mike has wanted to face Conor. He called him out after he knocked out Tony Ferguson at UFC 274, and he said he'd see him at the top. I don't know if The Ultimate Fighter is necessarily the top of the mountain for the UFC, but as long as the fight gets booked that'll be Michael Chandler's most viewed fight ever as it'll main event a pay-per-view and that is what Conor McGregor does. He breaks viewership records. However, Conor has coached TUF before against Uriah Faber. The season didn't end with McGregor vs Faber as they are in two separate weight classes. Although, it still causes some concern. Let's just hope that both men are ready to go to war with each other as soon as the cameras stop rolling and this whole thing isn't to spike views for TUF.
Between Chandler's wrestling background and Conor's kickboxing style, it should be interesting to see how these two coach their fighters. According to Chandler, the fight is going to happen and happen in Vegas at Welterweight. That would be a first for Chandler. We all know that magic happens whenever Chandler or Conor steps inside the octagon. Now that they get to make some magic happen together I can't wait. 2023 is off to a wild start with fight announcements.
Have to see MacGregor fight one more time!
That would be a great main event fight. Would love to see it.
