How the Belal Muhammad Title Reign can get fast-tracked...

Updated: Jan 26, 2023

Belal "Remember the Name" Muhammad, also known as Bully B has been one of the most exciting Welterweight Fighters on the rise in the UFC. With wins over Demian Maia, Stephen Thompson, and Vicente Luque it was hard to deny the caliber of fighter Bully B. Yet, his most impressive win is his latest victory over Sean Brady. To this point, we have not seen Belal really win with his hands, as he has been known to be a grappling technician. So how can Bully B get a fast track to the title?

Leon Edwards, the Welterweight Champion, needs an opponent for UFC 286 in London. Now you would think the headline would be "Edwards vs Usman 3." However, Kamaru Usman has a hand injury that may keep him sidelined for UFC 286. Yet, Leon still needs an opponent. The rumor mill is saying we'll finally get to see Edwards vs Masvidal. As fun as that fight would be, it just doesn't make sense. Jorge Masvidal hasn't won a fight since November of 2019. Belal Muhammad, on the other hand, is on a four-fight win streak. A four-fight win streak that could realistically be a NINE fight win streak if not for the famous eye poke heard around the world from non-other than the champion himself, Leon Edwards. Belal is the fourth-ranked Welterweight currently. Ahead are Usman, Covington, and Khamzat Chimaev. So why wouldn't Colby or Khamzat replace Usman?

Well, the answer to that question is quite simple. Khamzat is a Middleweight, he barely makes 170, there is no point in letting him linger as a Welterweight when he should be fighting guys like Marvin Vettori and Paulo Costa. As for Covington, does anyone really wanna see him compete for the belt again? His last two wins are against a down-trending Masvidal and Tyron Woodley who lost twice to Jake Paul. These aren't impressive bouts from Covington, while Belal will fight anyone, anywhere. In Belal's last camp he had Khabib in his corner, if this becomes a pattern I wouldn't bet against Bully B based on Khabib's coaching success. Do not be surprised when it is Belal "Remember the Name" Muhammad who replaces Kamaru Usman at UFC 286 and upsets Leon Edwards.
