If you are a fan of the UFC then you would know that "Thug Nasty" Bryce Mitchell is an up-and-comer with a ton of potential. Bryce suffered a tough loss to another star on the rise, Ilia Topuria. Both fighters were unbeaten before their bout at UFC 282. Recently a clip of Bryce talking to a camera crew after the loss surfaced. Bryce sounded like he was ready to retire.
"I'm just feeling I guess regret, you know, I just know I could've done better. I'm just in so much pain I don't think it's worth it to keep going. So I wanna stop with MMA and I wanna put every bit of focus that I've spent every single day on MMA and put it somewhere else. Everything is meant to be and I'm gonna just move on with my life."
There has been no confirmation on if Bryce will retire or just said some things in the heat of the moment. It would be a shame to see Bryce go after only one loss. Thug Nasty also posted a video one day after UFC 282 claiming he had the flu the week prior to fighting Topuria and that he'll "come back stronger" so I honestly doubt he's retiring. Bryce is 5-1 inside the UFC octagon and 15-2 professionally. Thug Nasty holds two huge victories over Edson Barboza and Andre Fili. I have no doubt Bryce will be back stronger than ever. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Topuria vs Mitchell 2 in a couple of years. Both fighters are still on the path to the Featherweight Championship and Topuria looks like he is ready for the belt now. I could easily see Topuria working his way to the belt by the end of 2023, beginning of 2024. By that time Bryce should also be close to a title opportunity, if-so Mitchell vs Topuria 2 for the Featherweight Belt would be an electric rematch to look forward to. Either way, I can not wait for the return of Thug Nasty!
