Jake Paul definitely deserves a little credit for his boxing stint. Defeating Tyron Woodley twice and Anderson Silva is certainly an impressive feat for anyone. Jake has devoted the last five years of his life to the sport of boxing. However, he was only boxing washed-up MMA fighters and Nate Robinson. As legendary as Woodley and Silva are, the fact of the matter is Woodley was on a four-fight losing streak in his own sport before boxing Jake, and Anderson Silva is three years away from turning 50. Knocking out a wrestler who doesn't train striking (Ben Askren) warrants zero credibility as a boxer. Yet all of these boxing fights did prove Jake can knock out old men and he does have some power. Yesterday, all Jake proved is that he is tough and he isn't easy to knock out, but his boxing skill cannot compare to that of a real boxer.
Tommy Fury is the first real boxer that Jake boxed. Tommy out-struck him 88-49 with 145 more strikes thrown. Tommy looked like a seasoned boxer compared to Paul. Fury has boxed only eight times. All Jake has are his overhand punches whereas Tommy looked technically sound after round one. In the first, Tommy looked a little awkward or rusty, still won the round, and didn't come into his own until round two. Based on that fight yesterday, I can't see Jake winning in a rematch. Tommy is a real boxer. It is honestly crazy that anyone doubted Tommy going into the fight, his older brother is arguably the greatest Heavyweight boxer of all time. Obviously, the two brothers aren't created equally, but they come from the same boxing pedigree. Credit to Jake for being able to stay on his feet the whole fight, but he should re-evaluate the whole PFL thing before stepping into a different sport with killers all in their prime.
That leaves us with the question of what's next for Jake. Most people believe the rematch with Fury is next in the cards, but Jake got worked. It would be borderline foolish for Jake to choose a rematch with Tommy. Fury would just outclass him again. So who should Jake fight then? The answer is KSI. Jake has said in the past he does want to defeat KSI as a side quest. Well, what better time for a side quest than after a loss? Jake needs to get back into the win column if washed MMA fighters are going to accept fights with him in the future. Jake was originally anticipating beating Fury and boxing Nate Diaz. That's off the table now. KSI has made it clear that Jake is more than a side quest to him. KSI wants to be king of the Youtube boxers. As of now, Jake wears that crown. It seems like a better time than ever to book that fight. I also wouldn't be surprised if Tommy Fury wanted to move on to boxing real boxers after this payday. Why box Jake again when it'll only impact your bank account as opposed to your legacy? If Tommy wants to be a great boxer in the future a rematch with Paul won't bring him any steps closer.
Who do you think Jake Paul's next opponent should be?
