Tonight was the final UFC fight card of the year. Strickland vs Cannonier was the headliner. Was it the most action-packed fight of the year? No, but both guys landed good shots throughout all five rounds and Jared Cannonier ended up winning the fight in a split decision. Two judges scored the contest 49-46 for Cannonier. Sal D'Amato scored the contest 49-46 for Strickland.
This is a puzzling way to end 2022, Sal's scoring is being talked about too much. The main takeaway from this fight is D'Amato needs to lose his judging privileges. Again, and again he is just watching a different fight than the other judges. If you're unaware of what I'm discussing, please check out "The Judging Debacle of UFC 282" post. We discuss a few other judges and some fights that they clearly did not watch. All in all, a great year for the UFC, 2023 is can be even better!
