The UFC heads to London this Saturday for UFC 286: Edwards vs Usman 3! The card is fantastic and we have some great fights coming our way. That being said the commentary crew will be slightly different this weekend. Per usual, Jon Anik and Daniel Cormier will be on the call. However, there will be no Joe Rogan this weekend. England's own former Middleweight Champion, Michael Bisping will be on the call. This isn't anything new for Joe or Michael Bisping.
Joe usually stays home for the international cards. It would have been great to hear Joe call the Welterweight Championship rematch as he had boots on the ground in Utah when Leon hit the pound-for-pound king at the time, Kamaru Usman, in the head with a beautifully timed kick to knock him out. The reaction of the crew was meme-worthy per usual with a knockout of that magnitude. Joe has been a UFC commentator since UFC 37.5: Liddell vs Belfort in 2002. Joe knows the fight game almost as well as the fighters, possibly better than some. It's only natural to want to hear him on the call for a card like this. You already know there's probably going to be a finish with Justin Gaethje vs Rafael Fiziev. It has fight-of-the-year potential written all over it as the co-main event. The reaction to the striking in this bout is going to be incredible.
All that said, I am happy for Michael Bisping that he landed the opportunity to be Rogan's replacement for the event because it's in his home country and he's a legend in London. Bisping receives a lot of criticism on Twitter for some of his calls, yet he's great at what he does. Michael also knows way more about mixed martial arts than the rest of us because he knows what it takes to be the Middleweight Champion of the UFC. He's usually great on the microphone and I'm glad they didn't just give the job to a random English announcer as Bisping has been calling Fight Nights for a few years now. I think Bisping is gonna do a great job in front of his home crowd and can't wait to hear him call the fight for England's own Welterweight Champion, Leon "Rocky" Edwards in what may be the rematch and trilogy of the century.
