UFC 285 Preview: Bo Nickal vs Jamie Pickett

UFC 285 is set to go for Saturday night and the expectations for the card are through the roof. There'll be fireworks as soon as the main card begins. The first fight on the main card is the UFC debut of Bo Nickal. Bo is one of, if not the biggest prospect the UFC has ever landed. Nickal was an NCAA national champion wrestler at Penn State. He went on to qualify for the 2020 US Olympic Wrestling team, but due to covid Bo never got the chance to compete. Odds are he would have brought home the gold being that he has wrestling experience against Olympic Gold Medalist, Kyle Snyder, and defeated Snyder. Bo got to the UFC after his dominant run on the Dana White Contender Series. Bo locked up two wins in under two minutes. Bo won both fights via submission. Bo is also only a blue belt in jiu-jitsu, so he is clearly a fast learner being able to use the martial art against his opponents so skillfully.

Bo's first UFC fight is against Jamie Pickett, another fighter who earned his ticket to the UFC from the Dana White Contender Series. However, Jamie is not unbeaten like Bo. Jamie isn't such a mystery inside the octagon due to a lack of time in the cage like Bo. Outside of having one of the coolest nicknames in the game Jamie "The Night Wolf" Pickett, he hasn't accomplished much in his UFC career. Pickett tapped out in his first fight on DWCS, which isn't a good sign if you're matched up with Nickal. In his second fight on the contender series, he lost via decision. His final fight in the contender series earned him a contract as he won with a round-two knockout. The Night Wolf lost his first two fights in the UFC and is now 2-4. He opens up as a (+900) underdog on DraftKings sports book. Quite frankly, it's for good reason.

Bo opens as a heavy favorite (-1500). I'm waiting for more lines to drop as I would like to take Bo in under 1.5 rounds. That kind of feels like a lock in my opinion. The way Bo fights appears to be extremely smart. Get in the octagon, get out of the octagon. He likes putting his opponents away as fast as possible, not only does that show his dominance, but it keeps him in great condition with minimal to zero damage taken. UFC 285 is right around the corner and the entire card is much watch television. Don't blink during Nickal vs the Night Wolf or you may miss it.
