UFC 289 Recap: Amanda Nunes and Charles Oliveira DOMINATE in Canada!

No one shined brighter this past Saturday Night than "Do Bronx" Charles Oliveira. He was able to knock out Beneil Dariush within the first few minutes of the fight displaying his immense power. Oliveira's power is slept on at times due to the fact he holds the most submissions in UFC history, but Charles can knock anyone out, he proved that on Saturday. However, there is some sad news from Saturday as well. We won't ever get to watch Amanda Nunes fight again, the GOAT of Women's MMA has announced her retirement. Yet, Amanda had nothing left to prove, she has cleared the division time and time again, and why risk losing another fight after having an unbelievable performance against Irene Aldana to walk out into the sunset? It's more of a bittersweet moment for the fans, but that opens the door for a new Champ in the division, and several women have their eye on the belt.

Juliana Pena was booing Amanda as she was retiring. Pena was originally scheduled to fight Amanda before getting injured, but honestly, it was so disrespectful and unbearably cringy. I kinda hope Pena gets blown up by either Raquel Pennington or Erin Blanchfield who has been calling to move up weight classes to fight for the vacant belt since retirement. Pena is the number one contender while Pennington is number two in the Bantamweight Division, however, Blanchfield is a machine in the Flyweight division and has been very vocal about trying to move up because Shevchenko will get her rematch against Alexa Grasso. In all honesty after Pena's last showing against Nunes, I have a feeling she could become the Dom Reyes of the Bantamweight Division. Nunes pieced her up and I wouldn't be surprised if Raquel knocked her out then similarly to the Light Heavyweight Division as soon as the title was vacated by Jones, the Women's Bantamweight division starts seeing some parity amongst the Champions.

Back to Charles Oliveira vs Beneil Dariush. I couldn’t be more surprised at how Charles won. I thought that fight was getting to the third in all honesty. Yet, Charles came out like a bat outta hell. It was honestly incredible. I'm glad to see Charles return to the octagon like the Champion he was before losing the belt in October. Not only was the response of Oliveira incredible, but this past finish was his twentieth UFC finish. Charles has been preaching his fight with Makhachev was a fluke, honestly, I'm buying into that after seeing the way Charles returned against Beneil. I think Charles is going to defeat Islam at UFC 294. I think Charles saw how Volk pressured Islam and he's going to knock him out. Opinion Octagon is all here for the return of Do Bronx. The Champion had a name, it's Charles Oliveira, and he will be the Champion again!
