UFC 290: Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic Booked for International Fight Week, July 8th in Vegas!

UFC 285 on Saturday was a historic night. Jon Jones returned and choked out Ciryl Gane in less than three minutes to win the Heavyweight Championship. The only strike Jon absorbed was an illegal nut-shot kick. Bones made it look easy against Gane. Immediately after the win, Jon called out former Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic who happened to be sitting front row. On Friday, Stipe told Daniel Cormier on his podcast that he was promised the winner of Jones vs Gane in July. The UFC has not confirmed anything yet, but today on the MMA Hour Miocic told Ariel Helwani that the fight is official for July 8th.

That is international fight week in Vegas. The UFC event that week will be UFC 290.

Amazingly, Jon Jones returned with a dominant win and we already have a main event for an event that's five pay-per-views away! We don't even have a main event for UFC 289 scheduled or a full card booked for UFC 288. Yet, UFC 290's main event is set. A battle between two of the GOATs. Jon is the greatest fighter of all time, and if you questioned it before Saturday I'd hope you're convinced now.

As for Miocic, he is the greatest Heavyweight to ever step foot inside a UFC octagon. Stipe had four successful title defenses during his run. He will be Jon's first Heavyweight title defense. It will be his 15th title defense. Don't let the record books fool you, DC said himself during the build to UFC 285 that Jon's second win against him should count and it shouldn't be considered a no-contest.

Jon vs Stipe is going to be historic. The odds on DraftKings are currently Jones (-325) vs Miocic (+270). It makes sense that Jones opens up as the favorite as he is the most dominant fighter of all time. However, Ciryl Gane should not be favored more than Stipe Miocic. Stipe can actually wrestle and Jon's grappling is what took Gane out of the fight. Jon vs Stipe is going to be a different fight. Do I think Jon finishes Stipe? Yes, I'm calling it now Jon is going to finish Stipe with a head kick. That said, I still feel the oddsmakers are disrespecting the former King of the Heavyweights.
