No disrespect to Nikita Krylov or Ryan Spann, but outside of their Light Heavyweight bout in the
main event this Saturday Night the card is relatively lackluster compared to the month of fights the UFC is giving us in March. It feels like the stories on Monday morning might be about a few other combat sporting events going on this weekend. This Friday, ONE Fighting Championship has two title fights. On Saturday Floyd Mayweather vs former Bellator Fighter, Aaron Chalmers in a boxing match is worth noting, but probably not worth watching. On Sunday, Jake Paul will finally box Tommy Fury after years of anticipation.
I am no expert on ONE Fighting Championship, but from the few cards I have seen on Amazon Prime, they put out some really good fights. ONE is super popular in Asia and has been gaining traction in the US. It doesn't seem coincidental that they are booking their championship fights on the same weekends the UFC books weaker fight nights. It's honestly shocking there wasn't a huge title fight last week too. The main event this Saturday is a Bantamweight Championship Bout between John Lineker and Fabricio Andrade. Fabricio and John are the top two ranked Bantamweights in the division and they are duking it out for the title. Tawanchai PK. Saenchai, the Muay Thai Champion of ONE will face Jamal Yusupov in a Muay Thai match for the title. That is another thing that differentiates ONE from the UFC. ONE not only has a mixed martial arts division but individual martial arts divisions like Muay Thai and Submission/Grappling. You're never going to get the same thing twice in ONE. They offer a little bit of everything which has made all of my watching experiences feel fresh. ONE also offers their big-time events for free on Amazon Prime which is amazing.
As for Sunday, I don't know if I'll be purchasing Paul vs Fury, but I may try to tune in. Jake and Tommy were originally supposed to box a couple of years ago. Tommy pulled out. They were set to fight again and Tommy was a no-show again. However, it's looking like the third time's a charm because as of now everything is all set in Abu Dhabi for the boxing match to finally take place. It is only Wednesday and something unpredictable can still happen that pulls Fury out of the fight. Yet, if the fight does happen, and it seems like it will, Tommy may be the guy to end the Jake Paul hype. Everybody criticizes Fury for boxing the bottom of the barrel of boxers, but Jake still hasn't boxed a boxer. He's proved he can box MMA fighters who primarily focus on other martial arts, but not one of his opponents besides 47-year-old Anderson Silva has or had a career in boxing. Say what you want about Tommy Fury, but his brother is the Heavyweight boxing champion of several different promotions and he has actual boxing experience against guys who only train in boxing. I have a feeling Tommy Fury is finally going to put his money where his mouth is, in other words, he's going to put his fist where Jake's mouth is.
